The GBCT Camera Trainee programme is aimed at future technicians who want to work predominantly on fiction productions. The Guild has been running its Trainee scheme for several years now. To ensure relevance and to meet industry needs, the GBCT Board has developed a more inclusive and flexible programme that involves a great number of Guild members to teach and further support trainees – as well as ensure that the skills gained meet the highest GBCT standards.

The Group Effort Initiative exists to create a pipeline for members of the BIPOC and other marginalized communities to get real experience towards a lasting career within the entertainment industry. 10-30 trainees working in various roles, learning from professionals on a movie set.

Our STEPPING UP programme is a rare opportunity for professionals already working in the industry to advance in their career, and also for those highly trained qualified specialists who want to move across to TV. The training scheme will be tailored to the individual according to their needs, and each participant will undertake a placement or course lasting no longer than 10 weeks or receive a training allowance for the entire period. Talking Point is a film and television industry training provider, running a wide range of courses and programmes for those wanting to work in the industry and those who are already established in their department.

A ScreenSkills bursary is a cash grant to remove the obstacles to getting into the screen industries or progressing your career once you’re in. You can apply for money to pay for most things that relate to work and continuing professional development, such as training fees, accommodation, care, disability access costs, equipment, software and travel.

As well as training with Sgil Cymru at Pinewood Studio Wales in Cardiff, the apprentices have and will be working in lots of different jobs – including camera, post-production, casting, art department, costume, production, graphic design and special effects.

Since Outlander began filming in Scotland in 2014, Screen Scotland, Outlander and ScreenSkills have co-funded a traineeships programme across all departments including camera, costume, design, assistant director, art department, effects and production – to approximately twenty trainees per series.
