The Young Films Foundation (YFF) is a talent development scheme that aims to find and aid a new generation of Scottish screenwriting talent, to connect them with key players in the UK film & TV industry as mentors, inspiring experts and commissioners.

Script reading and reporting is often one of the first steps to breaking into the TV drama or film industry. But it’s an incredibly important job, with readers playing a crucial role in whether a script is accepted or rejected by a production company. Get it right and you can forge great relationships with producers and execs, as well as potentially bagging yourself that elusive first job in development.

The Edinburgh Pitch is the only international documentary pitching forum in Scotland. It’s aimed at independent filmmakers and companies developing and raising finance for creative feature documentaries and considering international co-productions.

Throughout the year we offer professional consultancies to Scotland-based filmmakers, for projects (shorts and features) in development, production or distribution. Our consultants include SDI core team members as well as first rate UK based and international external advisors.

Delegations offer Scotland-based producers and filmmakers an opportunity to attend the most prominent international documentary festivals, thanks to the support of Screen Scotland. These Festivals include: IDFA (Amsterdam), CPH:DOX (Copenhagen), HotDocs (Toronto), Sheffield Doc/Fest (Sheffield).

What better way to learn about working in the Film and TV industry than to be part of a real-world production? On-the-job workplace experiences help to train and develop homegrown talent. For most it will be their first step towards building a career in the creative industries.

As film and TV production activity continues to grow in Scotland, we need to ensure Scotland’s screen workforce and infrastructure increases with it – not only the writers, producers and directors, but also the diverse range of other jobs and skills across production, distribution, marketing, business and finance, exhibition, education, festivals and audience development. The Pact Indie Diversity Scheme is a unique opportunity aimed specifically at entry-level diverse talent (both graduates and non-graduates). Our London trainees undertake a six-month placement, Scottish trainees eight-month placement, with an independent production company, allowing them to develop their talents in a thriving business environment. In addition, each participant is partnered with a senior-level mentor from within their company, and receives bespoke training from ScreenSkills, NFTS and BECTU Vision in areas such as copyright, storytelling, camera operating and much more.
