Only writers who do not have a broadcast credit as a television writer or theatrical release as a feature film writer may apply (although produced short films – 20 minutes or less – are exempt). Designed to develop more specialist filmmaking skills, this year our Specialist courses will be delivered as an intensive week or over a set number of weekends. You’ll work closely with leading industry professionals who will give you a unique insight into the filmmaking business and guide you along the way. Specialist courses are a great, one-off opportunity to help you into the film industry.

Springboard is our pioneering programme designed to support the British film industry by identifying and nurturing filmmakers who have previously made a first feature of note and are now embarking on steps to pursue a sustainable career in film.

Our annual open submission opportunity for all writers aged 18 and over and resident in the UK or Republic of Ireland.

BAFTA Elevate supports talent from underrepresented groups in progressing their careers, and helps tackle the issue of diversity in our industries as a whole. Selected participants receive a bespoke 12-month programme of support including networking opportunities, introductions, tailored panel discussions, masterclasses and workshops focused on professional development.

The BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Competition is a platform for aspiring screenwriters to have their work showcased and a fantastic opportunity to take their writing career to the next level. Runs twice a year, calls submissions for Film, Television Drama, Children, Family & YA Media, and Television Comedy scripts. Following a blind judging process, selected script extracts are performed by a professional cast to an audience of producers, development executives, directors, actors and literary agents, aiming to give a platform to emerging writing talent from across the country.
